do you know what you're singing?

i'm a chorus singer. when the chorus of a song comes on, i sing it out loud and proud.. but when it comes to the verses in between, i usually get in a few words and then hum along the rest of the way. sometimes i'll even make up my own lyrics to what i think the artist is saying - for instance (and i'm totally ashamed of this), Destiny's Child "Bootylicious" - i once thought the lyrics sang, "I don't think you're ready to pop this cherry", when in fact, and you all probably knew this, they were singing, "I don't think you're ready for this jelly." how embarassing is that?

it doesn't help that z calls me out on my lyric screw-ups all the time, which i react to by pretending i'm not offended and mumbling something along the lines of, "shut up, i know the song...".

so, i think i've found a solution, thanks to the greatness that is pandora. i've recently converted to it for office listening and have discovered some beautiful lyrics that i didn't know existed, but was under my nose, or in my ears, all this time. i thought it would be nice to post lyrics here because who knows, maybe you're like me and have been singing the wrong words all along without knowing it. this will help you save face. also, some of these lyrics are so wonderful that it amazes me how beautiful the words of our language can be when brought together the right way. a good example of this would be Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love":

When the rain is blowing in your in your face,
And the whole world is on your case,
I would offer you a warm embrace,
To make you feel my love.

When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
And there is no one there to dry your tears,
I could hold you for a million years,
To make you feel my love.

I know you haven't made your mind up yet,
But I would never do you wrong,
I've known it from the moment that we met,
No doubt in my mind where you belong.

I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue,
I'd go crawling down the avenue,
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do,
To make you feel my love.

The storms are raging on the rolling sea,
And on the highway of regret,
Though winds of change are blowing wild and free,
You ain't seen nothing like me yet.

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true,
Nothing that I wouldn't do,
Go to the ends of the Earth for you,
To make you feel my love.

To make you feel my love.

Adele's cover of this song is so pretty and was actually the one i just heard this morning. consider this my music contribution to the blogging world and hopefully, your day. xox
