a quiet celebration.

halloween was always a bit depressing growing up seeing as how my parents were never the holiday-celebrating type. they took me trick or treating once when i was 9 or so, but it was in a deserted neighborhood that had already ran out of candy. i vaguely recall being a fairy because i had a cardboard star-like wand wrapped in aluminum foil - a creation my mom thought was so clever when she made it and thus, always held a place in my memory.

when my sisters were old enough, i lived through them when it came to the holidays. i made sure they had costumes, took them trick or treating, checked their candy, and told them scary stories before bedtime. i just wanted to make sure they didn't miss out on anything. as they grew older, trick or treating no longer interested them, so that tradition slowly died.

now that i'm an adult, i still can't say that i'm a big halloween person. z and i never dress up or engage in halloween parties. i thought it was due to my upbringing but z always celebrated halloween during his youth, so i'm not exactly sure why we aren't as crazy about it as our friends. on the other hand, i do rather enjoy being a spectator by looking and admiring everyone's costumes and halloween ideas. i wish kids in our complex trick or treated because i would love to open our door and see a bunch of smiling spidermans and power rangers holding up their bags for candy - something i totally have to take into consideration when it comes time to buy a house.

today, halloween fell on a sunday. later, we will take emi on a walk around the complex so she can show off her bee costume and get lots of attention for it. z has a pot roast in the slow cooker for dinner. we have movies in the queue. and this year, that is how we will be celebrating halloween.

hope you all enjoy a fun and safe one. xxooxo

yeah I didn't do anything for this Halloween either. Everyone and their mamas went to Vegas, but my man & i stayed in as well. I think it also has to do w/ age. I don't care for Halloween as much as Christmas.
