while memorial day is set aside to remember the soldiers who have lost their lives in combat, the reality is that many of us just simply appreciate having a day off. this is not to put down our brave men and women who do a hell of a lot more than i could, but to face the facts would mean that i did not wake up this morning thinking about the importance of this day, but instead woke up happily knowing that i could lay my head back down to sleep, which i did.
however, i did not spend all day in bed because i like to take full advantage of my days off. this usually entails chores that i'm unable to do otherwise, or am too lazy to do on a regular weekend. for this day, i had my mind set on doing a very much needed spring cleaning of the apartment. cleaning is not exactly my forte and definitely not an ideal way to spend a morning off, but a clean place to come home to is so rewarding. not to mention that it helps with my vicious allergies. having emi around doesn't exactly make it easier as her shedding was a lot more serious than i had known. after i witnessed what her fur was doing to our couch and blankets, i knew i had to throw her in the tub and give her a good brushing. she's surprisingly well mannered during bath time even though you can tell she hates it. she hates the brushing even more because i spend at least 20 minutes doing it and that's too long for her to stay still.
in between all the cleaning, zac and i went on a nice 2 hour bike ride. there's a nearby trail that we discovered months back and today we decided to go the uphill route. man! riding a bike uphill is torture for the thighs and ass, which in turn means tighter thighs and a tighter ass, right? we finally turned around after it became too much and went off the trail to see what we could discover on the other side of the tracks. it was definitely a great day for riding, the sun was out but the ocean breeze protected us from getting too hot. i was a lot more productive today than i am at the office.
which leads me to ask - who do i need to write to in order to make three day weekends a law?
