three little birds.

Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!"

Rise up this mornin',
Smiled with the risin' sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin', ("This is my message to you-ou-ou:")

Singin': "Don't worry 'bout a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."
Singin': "Don't worry (don't worry) 'bout a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!"

Rise up this mornin',
Smiled with the risin' sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin', "This is my message to you-ou-ou:"

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing, worry about a thing, oh!
Every little thing gonna be all right. Don't worry!"
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing" - I won't worry!
"'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right" - I won't worry!
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing, oh no!
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!

even closer.

closer to my dreams
coming over me
i'm getting higher
closer to my dreams
i'm getting higher and higher

feel it in my sleep
sometimes it feels like i'll never go pass here
sometimes it feels like i'm stuck forever and ever
when i'm going higher.

closer to my dreams
i'm going higher and higher
i ain't gonna sleep
sometimes you just have to let it go
(let it go, let it go)
leaving all my fears to burn down
push them all away so i can move on.

closer to my dreams,
feel it all over my being.
close your eyes and see what you believe.

i'm moving higher, oh
(higher)
I'm going higher and higher and higher
(higher and higher)
closer to my dreams
(higher and higher, oh oh)
i'm moving upward and onward and beyond all i can see
(stretching out my arms, so i can breathe)

feels so close it's like i can just reach
i can feel my dreams
(closer to my dreams)
i'm moving closer to my dreams.

sometimes it feels like you're never gonna change
but you never choose to walk away.

for this rainy spring morning.

One innocent spring
your voice meant to me
less than tires turning
on a distant street.

Your name, perhaps spoken,
led no chorus of
batons
unrehearsed
to crush against my empty chest.

That cool spring
was shortened by
your summer, bold, impatient
and all forgotten
except when silence
turns the key
into the midnight bedroom
and comes to sleep upon your
pillow.

rest in power, big poppa.

it's always a tragedy when we lose hip hop greats. we've suffered through the deaths of pac and aaliyah and just last year we lost guru to cancer and Japanese artist, nujabes. it feels like such an injustice. our hearts and souls yearn for more of their presence, their music, their words, and their talent. the world will never know all that they could have contributed because they all died such untimely deaths at such young ages and that may be the hardest truth to swallow.

when big passed, time stopped. no one wanted to believe it and eventually the denial turned into anger and then turned into sadness. what was the world coming to? first pac, now this? it was unsettling. the full realization of big's death was heavy but with every loss, comes a gain and that gain came to us in the form of peace with the west coast and east coast beef ending.

it's such a pity that it took the death of two great rappers to bring peace to a rivalry so unwarranted in the first place. but isn't that how our world works? whatever the case, i would like to personally tip my hat to big, not only to mark the 14th year anniversary since his death, but to also celebrate the 25 years of the life he lived and the music he brought to us and the hip hop community. we celebrate his legacy because it lives on.

always rest in power, big poppa.

spoken soul.

if i could paint your soul,
i'd draw a crescent moon gliding in the sky.
i'd emphasize the city lights that linger throughout the night.
i'd paint an eye at the end of the tunnel light..
symbolizing the eye that looks into your soul.

and if i could paint your mind,
i'd create a maze,
in a daze..
as i try to understand your mindstate.
turning every corner only to meet a dead end,
intrigued even more as i retrace my steps,
pacing myself to find an escape.
but none exist because your mind is a place of discovery.

and baby, if i could paint your body,
i'd search for a perfect canvas,
b/c you, to me, is as perfect as can be.
your arms strong as i run to them,
seeking refuge in them, away from sin.
your face - that of an angel,
sent to me by God personally.
your smile a ray of sunshine after a morning rain,
lighting up the sky in my life.

if i could paint true love,
i'd paint a portrait of one person.
you & me together.
as one body, mind, and soul.
